Overview

Located in Sherwood Park this extraordinary 23,000 sq/ft chalet-style residence balances grandeur with warmth, comfort, and connection. Designed for a family who values gathering and entertaining, the overall vision was clear from the beginning: to create a modern chalet—cozy, inviting, and layered with texture and character.

Design Direction: Mad for Plaid

The home’s unique charm owes much to the strong vision led by Rachel Kemp, Principal Designer at Studio Ridge Residential. With an eye for timeless comfort, Rachel brought a distinct “mad for plaid” approach to every room—rugs, dinette chairs, bar stools, throws, and accent pillows carried variations of checks and tartans, unifying the home’s vast spaces with a subtle continuity.

The result? A thoughtful mix of pattern and texture that feels both curated and lived-in. Every piece—whether bold or understated—was chosen with purpose to support the chalet narrative while delivering the comfort of a true family retreat.

A Project That Grew Overnight

What began as a casual Sunday visit to Cottswood’s showroom turned into a design journey of remarkable scale. The clients initially came in looking for a sectional but hinted at a larger project. A week later, a site visit revealed the full scope—and it was nothing short of breathtaking.

Cottswood’s collaboration with the client and their design team quickly took shape. When Rachel came to town, the group spent a focused 7.5-hour session in the showroom, trying out furniture, refining fabrics, and locking in selections. By the end of September, 75% of the home’s furnishings were finalized.

“It was one of those rare projects where the client had an incredibly clear vision of their style. The process was fast-paced but never rushed—creative, fun, and focused,” says the Cottswood consultant who worked closely on the project.

Delivery Day: An 18-Hour Transformation

In April 2025, the Cottswood Delivery Team staged and installed entire rooms—rugs, furnishings, and finishing touches—in just 18 hours. Every corner of the home was brought to life with intention and care, ready for a June move-in. It was an extraordinary effort that truly reflected the passion and dedication of the entire team.
